This is a beautiful edition of The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley, which was first published between 1862–1863 as a serial for Macmillan's Magazine, and then in its entirety in 1863.
 
Bound in the original publisher's blue decorative cloth featuring an elaborate gilt decoration to the front cover and spine. The boards are in very good condition and remain exceptionally vibrant and bright - the book has a very slightly forward lean and there is some light wear to the extremities and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. No inscriptions. The contents are lightly age toned with some light occasional foxing which is heavier at the preliminary and end pages. There is a crack to the hinge but it is superficial and the contents are firmly bound. Featuring 100 line drawings by Linley Sambourne which compliment the tale perfectly.
