Firmly bound in green cloth with dark green and gilt decoration to the front cover. The boards are in very good overall condition - there is some fading to the spine, some light wear to the extremities and the gilt to the front cover has worn away a little. Beautifully decorative endpapers which are clean and bright. There is an ownership label for R & J Holdsworth to the half-title page. Frontispiece with tissue guard, both in good, clean condition. Both the frontispiece and title page feature an attractive border in red. The contents are lightly age toned with some light, intermittent foxing. Featuring numerous detailed illustrations by the English artists and illustrator Alfred Garth Jones.
