Aucassin and Nicolete is an anonymous, medieval, early 13th-century French chantefable (a story told in alternating sections of verse and prose, the former sung, the latter recited).Bound in the original publisher's beige cloth with an elaborate blue floral design to the front cover and spine. Blue lettering to the front and spine. The boards are lightly soiled with some light wear to the head and tail of the spine, but otherwise the condition is very good. Ink inscription to front free end paper. The text on each page is surrounded by a beautifully decorative and delicate border. There are six colour illustrations, each with a captioned tissue guard. The pages are lightly age toned. There is very light occasional foxing with some browning to the endpapers, but otherwise the pages are clean and bright. pp.132. c.25.5cm x 19.5cm.
