This is a particularly striking and well-preserved, large format edition of Adam Bede by George Eliot. Blue cloth featuring a pictorial paste down to the front cover and gilt decoration/lettering to both the front cover and spine. The boards are vibrant and bright with some light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Plain endpapers. Ownership label to the reverse of the frontispiece. Some light creasing and a small tear to the right edge of the frontispiece and title page - thumb sized creasing continues through the first 30 pages but it is minor. The contents are lightly age toned but otherwise clean and bright throughout. Age spotting to the page edges. Featuring numerous full page colour illustrations and pen and ink drawings by the English artist and children's book illustrator Gordon Browne. Top edge gilt.
