Ivory cloth featuring gilt decoration and lettering to the front cover. Bevelled boards with  some surface soiling to the cloth as is common with pale cloth, and some wear to the extremities, including a small chip to the cloth on the lower front edge. The contents are age toned with some browning to the preliminary pages - otherwise clean and bright throughout. There is a tear to the rear endpaper as shown in the images provided. With twelve beautiful tipped in colour plates by Charles Folkard, each with a captioned paper guard, plus numerous in text illustrations in black and white.
