The story of the bull who preferred to sit and smell flowers than fight the matadors, Ferdinand's tale of pacifism became a hit with children in Spain but was banned by Franco for its supposedly anti-Civil War ideology.
This is a somewhat scarce first UK edition of Ferdinand. Original quarter tan cloth, red pictorial paper boards in very good condition. There is some wear to the extremities, minor fading to the upper front board and some darker spots to the spine. Wonderful pictorial endpapers depicting the advertisement for 'Ferdinando', the angry bull. There is a gift inscription to the title page dated Oct 21st 1937, but the contents are otherwise beautifully clean and bright throughout, with only a few minor spots of foxing.
