Bound in the original publisher's greenish blue/gilt decorative cloth and in good overall condition, The gilt  is bright and there is light wear to the extremities and a scuff mark to the rear board. Endpapers clean and free from inscriptions. Contents lightly age toned with a few spots of foxing - otherwise clean throughout. There is a crack to the internal hinge which has made a section of the text block (pages 17-24) come loose. They remain bound and with care should stay that way, but the upper stitching is very loose. Page 33 is detached but sits neatly in place.  Densely illustrated with pen and ink drawings by Thomson including a tissue-guarded frontispiece and title-page.
