This beautiful book is filled with fascinating information about the language and meaning of flowers. The preface explains something that many of us today may not know, and that is what it meant in the Victorian era to present a flower, from the manner in which it was presented to the meaning of the chosen flower. It goes on to provide an index of all flowers and their meanings, followed by an extensive selection of 'floral' poetry. Not only is this book interesting in content, it is a beautiful object and a scarce find in such lovely condition.

Bound in the original publisher's green cloth and elaborately decorated in gilt to the front cover and spine. The bevelled boards are in very good condition, with some rubbing and bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine but otherwise clean and vibrant in colour. Slight forward lean to the book. The contents are age toned with some light occasional foxing but that is all. No inscriptions.
