This lovely edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by C. S. Lewis has been rebacked and the endpapers have been replaced. Rebacking is a method used in book conservation. The aim is to reinforce the book whilst using as much as the original material as possible. In this case, a new spine has been created, covered in matching cloth and then attached under the original boards.
Title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Author: Lewis Carroll.
Publisher: Macmillan and Co., Limited: London.
Published Date: 1907. First edition in this format.
Pagination: pp.204.
Format: Hardback.
The condition is very good overall - there is some rubbing and bumping to the corners of the boards and a couple of surface marks, but nothing significant - the gilt lettering to the spine is clear and legible. The endpapers have been replaced and are clean and bright. The original contents are very good, lightly age toned with some very minor intermittent foxing. There is a tape mark to the first page of the story, as shown in the images provided. I imagine that prior to restoration it was taped to keep the contents together and then carefully removed, leaving behind a residue. Beautifully illustrated throughout by John Tenniel.
