This is a scarce early impression of The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge, winner of the Carnegie Medal 1946.
"One of the most beloved of all twentieth-century children's books, Goudge's atmospheric masterpiece sees thirteen-year-old Maria Merryweather unlock the mysterious secret at the heart of her family's ancestral home, Moonacre Manor.... A beautifully written fantasy story filled with magic, a Moon Princess, and a mysterious white horse. Little White Horse and the delightful heroine, Maria Merryweather, are sure to be loved by all children." (Waterstones synopsis)
Bound in blue cloth with a small horse design to the lower right corner of the front board and gilt lettering to the spine. Firmly bound, with a slight forward lean, the boards are in very good condition. There is minor fading and a small brown mark to the spine. Pictorial endpapers featuring a map of the Kingdom of Moonacre - free from inscriptions. The contents are mildly age toned with a few minor spots of foxing. Complete with the original unclipped dust jacket which has in good condition overall. There is some browning to the white areas of the jacket and some wear to the extremities, including some areas of loss to the head and tail of the spine.
Overall a very good example of this scarce book.
