In the original publisher's green decorative cloth with red lettering over a gilt title band to both the front cover and spine. The boards are in very good condition with some light wear to the extremities and some light surface soiling. There is a superficial crack to the front  hinge at the endpapers but the book remains solidly bound. There is a lovely, neat inscription to the verso of the ffep dated 1893. Engraved frontispiece depicting a scene from the Vicar of Wakefield. Each page has an illustrated border, making it a particularly attractive volume. A small section of pages have minor tears to the outer edges (around p.180) as though they have been knocked (shown in images). This does not affect the text. All edges gilt.
