This is an early edition with folding maps, in the original publisher's binding, published the same year as the first edition. Illustrated with frontispiece, 21 plates, a pull out plan of Khartum and Omdurman and a pull out map showing the Extent of Mahdist Influence in 1895. 
 
Burgundy cloth featuring a gilt pictorial detail to the front cover and gilt to the spine. The boards are in good overall condition though there are signs of wear - there is some rubbing and bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine. There are also surface scratches/marks and fading to the spine. There is a superficial crack to the front and rear hinges but the contents remain firmly bound. The pages are age toned with some browning and occasional foxing.
