Watership Down by Richard Adams has become a modern classic. It won the 1972 Carnegie Medal for writing [awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book written in English for children and young people] and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize [fiction book written for children/young people and published in the UK].
Set in England's Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home. Led by a stout-hearted pair of friends, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, to a mysterious promised land and a more perfect society.
This illustrated edition is bound in the original publisher's ivory and brown cloth with black lettering and pictorial detail to the spine. The book and its contents are in near fine condition with almost no signs of wear - I doubt it has ever been read. Complete with the original unclipped dust jacket which is also near fine, and the original illustrated slipcase which very good - near fine. A beautiful copy and definitely gift-worthy.
